Thursday Hummock Farms Tour

A Hummock Farms Tour commences at 8am and finishes at 12.30pm. It gives you an opportunity to experience a morning visiting Hummock and Alloway farms, meeting farmers for a behind the scenes tour as well as Bargara Meats on the coast.

Although similar crops grow on both sides of the river in the Bundaberg area the soil is quite different. Around the Hummock the soil is rich, red volcano soil resulting from an ancient volcano. Sugar cane still dominates the fields but is fast being overtaken by macadamias and sweet potatoes, strawberries, passionfruit, tomatoes, pumpkins, watermelons, ginger, turmeric, dragon fruit, bananas and free range chickens producing beautiful eggs. Flower farms are becoming increasingly popular growing sunflowers, gladiolus, Asiatic lilies and oriental lilies, to name just a few.

The Tour

Host Suzie will take you to the Hummock lookout where the view will delight you. The first stop is a behind the scenes tour at Grunske's by the River Seafood Market with passionate seafood industry advocate Sian before heading out to the farms. Each tour will visit three farms in season. A delicious morning tea is included using ingredients sourced directly from growers in the Bundaberg region. Suzie will also introduce you to Dan and his team of butchers at Bargara Meats. Dan will share his passion for local produce, offering tastings and a great selection of delicatessen items, as well as quality meat.

Ready to discover everything food and flowers that the coastal area east of Bundaberg has to offer? Book now to reserve your place on a Hummock Farms Tour. Each tour is $79 for adults, $59 for children under 17 years of age and $75 for concession card holders.
